Transform your smile with porcelain veneers
If you are unhappy with the appearance of your smile, you are not alone. Almost everyone has something they would like to change, from permanent stains to asymmetry or misalignment. Porcelain veneers are a versatile choice that can hide a wide variety of imperfections and transform your smile in as little as two visits. At Bearley Dental in Charlottesville, Virginia, Dr. Daniel Bearley works closely with patients to understand their goals for their smile and then combines artistry, precision, and state-of-the-art materials and techniques to craft the smile they’ve always wanted.
Porcelain veneers explained
Porcelain veneers have been used for many decades in the movie industry to give movie stars their picture-perfect smiles. But they are no longer just an option for the rich and famous! With advances in adhesive technology and dental porcelains, durable and natural-looking veneers are within everyone’s reach.
Porcelain veneers are created from very thin pieces of dental porcelain that are completely customized in terms of shape and color to create your perfect smile. They are bonded onto the front of the teeth, where they can hide many types of aesthetic imperfections such as:
- Stains that aren’t responsive to tooth whitening treatments
- Chips and cracks
- Pitted or grooved enamel
- Gaps between teeth
- Asymmetry in the smile
- Mildly crooked teeth
- Worn-down teeth
- Unevenly sized or shaped teeth
Composite resin veneers are also an option available to our patients at Bearley Dental. Typically, these are a more economical option and are easy to repair if they become chipped, stained, or otherwise damaged. However, porcelain veneers are more durable and are less likely to chip or stain.
Getting veneers placed
The process for getting veneers usually takes two visits after you and Dr. Bearley have discussed your options and decided that veneers are right for you. It is important to note that veneers are typically only recommended for healthy teeth that are free from cavities and decay, so Dr. Bearley may recommend treating these issues before the placement of your veneers.
Your teeth will be gently prepared for the veneers by slightly roughing the enamel on your first visit. That helps the veneers form a better bond with your teeth. We will then take dental impressions so your veneers can be custom-made in the laboratory. When they are ready, you come back into the office, and we will try your veneers on, making any minor adjustments needed for the perfect fit and appearance before permanently bonding them onto your teeth.
